چکیده

Using a multiphase transport model, we study J/c production from interactions between charm and anticharm quarks in the initial parton phase and between D and D̄ mesons in the final hadron phase of relativistic heavy ion collisions at the relativistic heavy ion collider. Including also the inverse reactions of J/c absorption by gluons and light mesons, we find that the net number of J/c from the parton and hadron phases is smaller than that expected from the superposition of initial nucleon-nucleon collisions, contrary to the J/c enhancement predicted by the kinetic formation model. The production of J/c is further suppressed if one includes the color screening effect in the parton phase. We have also studied the dependence of J/c production on the charm quark mass and the effective charm meson mass.

JÕc suppression in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions

Using a multiphase transport model, we study the relative importance of J/c suppression mechanisms due to plasma screening, gluon scattering, and hadron absorption in heavy ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. We find that for collisions between heavy nuclei such as Au1Au, both plasma screening and gluon scattering are important. As a result, the effect due to absorption by ha...

Multiphase transport model for relativistic nuclear collisions

To study heavy ion collisions at energies available from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider ~RHIC!, we have developed a multiphase transport model that includes both initial partonic and final hadronic interactions. Specifically, the Zhang’s parton cascade ~ZPC! model, which uses as input the parton distribution from the heavy ion jet interaction generator ~HIJING! model, is extended to includ...

Multiphase transport model for relativistic heavy ion collisions

We describe in detail how the different components of a multiphase transport (AMPT) model that uses the heavy ion jet interaction generator (HIJING) for generating the initial conditions, Zhang’s parton cascade (ZPC) for modeling partonic scatterings, the Lund string fragmentation model or a quark coalescence model for hadronization, and a relativistic transport (ART) model for treating hadroni...

Resonances from AMPT

A multiphase transport (AMPT) model that includes both initial partonic and nal hadron rescattering effects in relativistic heavy ion collisions is brie y reviewed. Particular attention is given to the scattering processes in the hadronic phase in order to address resonances production in these collisions. As an example, phi meson production is discussed in detail through both its dikaon and di...

Partonic effects on higher-order anisotropic flows in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

Higher-order anisotropic flows v4 and v6 of charged hadrons in heavy-ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider are studied in a multiphase transport model that has previously been used successfully for describing the elliptic flow v2 of identified hadrons in these collisions. We find that the same parton scattering cross section of about 10 mb used in explaining the measured v2 of c...
